The Philippine Basketball Association (PBA) has rescheduled its 2025 All-Star Weekend originally planned for May 2- May 4, 2025 in Davao Region because of increasing political tension and security risks. The move comes amid recent Metro Davao unrest, specifically following the arrest of former President Rodrigo Duterte for crimes against humanity, an act that has drawn intense public reaction and heightened security threats in the region.

PBA Commissioner Willie Marcial confirmed the rescheduling on Wednesday night, stating “There were circumstances beyond our control. Security concern. And after considering it, for the sake of the majority, we decided to postpone it.”

The All-Star Weekend would have included an exhibition game for the Mindanao All-Stars in Davao City and a highlight game in Tagum between young stars of the past three draft classes and the veteran players of the league. These were twice scheduled as part of the anniversary celebrations of the PBA’s 50th year.

Marcial said the league is looking at moving the event to the Visayas but any rescheduling would only be done after the May elections. If a new venue is not secured in time, the All-Star celebration could be cancelled altogether.

The Bacolod All-Star Weekend was a fan favorite last year, ending in a dramatic 140-all tie between Team Barroca and Team Aguilar. The league plans to recreate the same thrills once the safer and more appropriate venue is confirmed.
