‘Pejuang’ – Mahathir announces new party name

PETALING JAYA – Former Malaysian Prime Minister Mahathir Mohamad today revealed that his new political party as Pejuang, which means warrior.

The new party, also called, Parti Pejuang Tanah Air (Fighters of the Nation Party) was announced during the ceremony to name its first candidate for the upcoming Perak state assembly seat Slim by-election.

Mahathir urged the Bersatu members to leave the leadership of Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin and join his new party instead.

He said that those who reject corruption and money politics can support his candidate by voting for them. He also urged the Slim voters to fight against his former party president Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin.

Mahathir made the announcement in a blog post about the betrayal of his former colleagues in Bersatu whom he claimed have sold out for post and money when they aligned themselves to UMNO and Barisan Nasional.

Dr Mahathir said Pejuang — Malay for warrior – was created to corruption and kleptocracy.

Amir Khusyairi Mohamad Tanusi was named by Mahathir to be candidate for Pejuang, contesting as an independent.

Several Pakatan Harapan leaders including Parti Amanah Negara president Mohamad Sabu, PKR’s vice-president Chang Lih Kang, and DAP’s national organising secretary Anthony Loke attended the event to show solidarity with Mahathir.

DAP’s national organising secretary Anthony Loke said in his speech that Pakatan Harapan will support independent candidate in order to beat UMNO in one on one battle.

Earlier today, Barisan Nasional (BN) named Mohd Zaidi Aziz as their candidate for the Slim state by-election. The by-election is set for August 29.
