Pheu Thai Party asks government to refrain from transferring officials

Phumtham Wechayachai, Pheu Thai deputy party leader, has asked the caretaker government to not transfer any of the high-level officials when the new government is still in the process of taking over Thailand’s administration.

Phumtham Wechayachai said in his statement issued on Friday that the government must comply with the constitution by not transferring government officials, especially permanent secretaries for various ministries.

He noted that the caretaker government under Prayut Chan-o-cha, a Thai politician and army officer who has served as the Prime Minister of Thailand since he seized power in a military coup in 2014, must follow the constitution.

The Pheu Thai party leader went on to urge the government to not transfer officials because it can affect the new government’s efforts to implement its policies in the country. He also noted that some officials were near to mandatory retirements.

The Pheu Thai party leader highlighted the importance of implementing new policies starting from the first day of its taking office. He also lauded the contribution of government officials. He said that the new government would tackle economic problems quickly.

Pheu Thai Party deputy leader Phumtham Wechayachai further said that the permanent secretaries for all ministries were essential for the new government’s administration.

While referring to the permanent secretaries for all ministries, he said, “In order for the new government to quickly achieve its objectives, it is necessary that you delay appointments of high-level officials during this time and wait for the new government to come with new policies.”

The Move Forward Party won the most seats in Thailand’s general election. However, it was excluded from a coalition to form the next government in the country. The party was unable to form the government under the military-enacted constitution.

The Pheu Thai Party has taken the responsibility for the formation of a new government.
