PKR said it is ready today to address any decisions taken by the Pakatan Harapan ( PH) Presidential Board, including the option of a nominee for prime minister.
In a statement today, its party secretary-general Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution said this is given the Supreme Council leaders’ earlier stance on the subject. Any new candidate’s decision should not be leveraged as personal political gain.
The party also claimed that the mandate of the citizens must be restored to their rightful position immediately and in the form granted to PH by the citizens during the 14th General Election ( GE14), including the issues of power transfer involving Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad to party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The members of the Supreme Council agree there needs to be improved coordination between PH parties. At the same time, they reassure both parties that they are cautious and that they are not fooled by any attempts or steps intended to build discord between parties inside the PH alliance, as they did before with PKR.
He noted that PKR and PH would be working hard to plan for all possibility in 2023 like the GE15. Dr Mahathir announced yesterday that he endorsed President Datuk Seri Shafie Apdal of Parti Warisan Sabah as the nominee for prime minister of the opposition.
The former prime minister explained that the appointment of Shafie was a joint decision at an informal meeting with members from DAP, Amanah, and Parti Warisan Sabah at the Ruman Tetamu Sabah here two days ago. It comes after PKR split ranks with allies from PH who backed Dr Mahathir as a contender for PM.
