PKR Youth chief candidates clashed over the ‘big tent’ approach

Malaysia – During the discussion between the contenders for the position of PKR Youth (AMK) chairman, the “big tent” policy was a matter of dispute, as both mentioned how vital it is for the party to win over the people.

The approach now being espoused by certain PKR officials, according to candidate Adam Adli Abdul Halim, should be defined by the party’s example and ideals.

“Every time we speak about political collaboration with other parties in this country, we must remember that every political coalition in this nation is a coalition of diverse political parties with varied dynamics,” he said.

During the “live” discussion on Astro Awani, he also added that the PKR is the only modern political party that is a blend of Parti Keadilan Nasional and Parti Rakyat.

Any plan established by the leadership should be only for the benefit of the public, not specific leaders, according to Adam Adli.

“I agree with the viewpoint that any further discussion of political collaboration should not be detrimental to the people and should avoid deceitful aspects.

“We must not repeat previous mistakes.  I think the people are capable of determining where we want to go in terms of our political alliance,” he said.

This caused his opponent, Fahmi Zainol, to remark that Adam Adli was unable to address issues about the “big tent” approach, which he considered crucial.

“I noticed Adam didn’t respond to my question. Perhaps after this, at the coffee shop, he can discuss his stance on the ‘big tent,'” he joked.

Fahmi had previously questioned Adam Adli on his viewpoint on the “big tent” strategy during the debate’s second round.

He also said that a smart strategy must be implemented at the Youth level in order to create a “wave” of people power in the 15th general election (GE15), comparable to the main issues exploited in the past.

“The wave is really significant. As 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB) and National Feedlot Corporation Sdn Bhd (NFC) scandal drove Barisan Nasional (BN) to its knees in various states.

“We need a strong approach, particularly at the youth level,” Fahmi remarked, “to guarantee that the wave persists in every election and finally gives Pakatan Harapan the mandate to lead the nation.”

Former activists Adam Adli and Fahmi Zainol are fighting for the party’s senior AMK position.

From May 17 to 22, the voting process will begin state by state, with each AMK member receiving one vote to choose their leader.

In what is turning up to be a fiercely contested race, Adam Adli has created the “Seangkatan” organization, while Fahmi has “Ayuh Malaysia,” which is loaded with their own followers.
