PKR’s Shamsul Iskandar struggle to secure position in Hang Tuah Jaya

Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Akin of PKR could have a disadvantage in securing his federal position in Hang Tuah Jaya as he has a low recognition rate among his constituents and survey also says that only 4 percent of the community answered that they will support party president Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim as the leader in the coming general election.

A survey conducted by Invoke showed that only 21 per cent of the constituents in Hang Tuah Jaya recognize and name Shamsul Iskandar as the PM while the other 74 per cent answered that they have never come face to face with the PM nor they have been given any assistance.

The very same survey also says that 72 per cent of the constituents have not heard any news report about him.

“Shmasul Iskandar’s recognisability among his constituents is remarkably low despite having served as Member of Parliament (MP) for Hang Tuah Jaya (formerly known as Bukit Katil) since 2013.

“Overall, only 21 per cent of Hang Tuah Jaya voters identified him correctly, while 74 per cent did not,’’ said the survey.

A survey entitled “Uncharted Territory” conducted by Invoke surveyed about 500 voters respectively in six different constituencies such as the Gombak (Datuk Seri Azmin Ali — Bersatu), Hang Tuah Jaya ( Shamsul Iskandar — PKR), Johor Baru (Akmal Nasrullah Mohd Nasir — PKR), Seremban (Anthony Loke — DAP), Tanjong Malim (Chang Lih Kang — PKR), and Wangsa Maju (Datin Paduka Dr Tan Yee Kew — PKR) with the sole purpose of measuring the sentiment of the voters after the formation of the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government  and the resentment of the voters towards the “subversion of the people’s mandate.’’

Invoke said that Shamsul Iskandar’s current status in Hang Tuah Jaya could put Pakatan Harapan at a disadvantage in the GE15. Not to mention that the voter’s choice of candidate is also inclined on the party the candidate belongs to. It has been pointed out by Invoke that constituents of Hang Tuah Jaya are not persuaded with Anwar Ibrahim to be the prime minister and what’s more is that Shamsul Iskandar’s inconspicuousness are both weighing down the chance of PKR to uphold the Hang Tuah Jaya seat.
