Although awaiting the decision of the government to prolong or remove the conditional movement control order expiring this Tuesday (June 9), Today, Malaysians will look forward to an announcement on the Short-Term Economic Recovery Program in a special message from Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin (pictured).
Local news outlets and social media networks will air the Premier ‘s unique message live at 3 pm. Looking back, last March 18, the Movement Control Order (MCO) was enforced in the country following the Covid-19 outbreak and then the conditional MCO, from last May 4.
Implementing the MCO and conditional MCO has proved successful in fighting the Covid-19 pandemic as seen with the drop in the daily number of new cases, allowing the government to reopen more economic sectors in the country. It is obvious that Muhyiddin ‘s special message would be much awaited by people , especially the players in the economic industry.
On the situation of Covid-19 in the region, although the number of daily cases grew to three digits, to 277 yesterday, from 93 cases the day before, Malaysia is seen approaching a situation of free-Covid-19.
In his regular media conference on Covid-19, Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said of the 277 incidents, only six cases affected Malaysian residents, with four local transmission and two cases imported.
Meanwhile, in a recent interview for a documentary on MCO with Bernama TV, Senior Minister (Security) Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said that Malaysia would see big changes in the policy of hiring foreign workers and curbing the entry of illegal immigrants in post-Covid 19.
He said it was about time to revise the strategy as foreigners were among the major contributors to the increase in Covid-19 cases both in the nation and in many other nations, including Singapore.
The tourism industry, he said, was adversely affected by the Covid-19 outbreak among economic sectors, with many hotels forced to shut down their operations and withdraw workers. While the post-Covid-19 economic recovery could be slow, government policy would definitely place greater emphasis on local employment.
