Chairman of the Corona Research Team and Vaccine Formulation from the Professor Nidom Foundation (PNF), Prof. Dr. Chairul Anwar Nidom said that the coronavirus does not discriminate between regions or areas that can be infected.

If Indonesia wants to lockdown, he said not based on administrative areas that are used as a benchmark.

“Coronavirus does not understand to area or region. So, in principle, there is no need for regional lockdown. But, island lockdown is needed,” concluded Prof. Nidom.

According to him, sea water is the best isolator in reducing the spread of the coronavirus in this island nation.

“It is better to do an island lockdown,” he said.

He gave an example, if the lockdown was carried out on the island of Java with the assumption that one percent of the population was at risk of contracting, then health facilities for one million patients in one island would be needed.

This is a big job that requires cooperation from all Indonesian people. Prof. Nidom also hoped that the corona outbreak could become a national solidarity movement.

Prof. Nidom, who is also a Professor in Biochemistry and Molecular Biology at the Faculty of Veterinary Medicine, Airlangga University, Surabaya, said that East Java does not need to take lockdown steps based on administrative areas.

“The thing is, it does not look to act impetuously, but calm and anticipatory,” he said.

For information, the number of cases in Indonesia is increasing, recorded to date, Monday (02/17/2020) there have been 134 cases infected with the coronavirus.
