Refugees from flooding increase in Selangor but decrease in other states.

Malaysia – The number of flood victims in Selangor’s relief centres (PPS) has increased again, while those in Kuala Lumpur and five other states have decreased.

The Info Bencana webpage of the Social Welfare Department (JKM) reported yesterday that 62,795 evacuees at 401 PPS in seven states — Selangor, Pahang, Perak, Negri Sembilan, Melaka, Kelantan, and Kuala Lumpur.

In Selangor, InfoBencana JKM stated that there were 21,385 flood victims from 5,510 households, a minor rise from the 21,047 evacuees from 5,274 families as of 12.38 pm, with all being accommodated at 117 PPS.

Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari stated in a tweet that 1,073 tonnes of waste and flood debris had been collected from flood-affected districts and that the state government will step up efforts to assist locals in cleaning up their homes.

According to Pahang’s Disaster Management Committee Secretariat, the number of flood victims has decreased to 36,841 individuals at 267 PPS in nine districts as of 4 p.m., down from 38,810 people at 285 PPS.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has projected thunderstorms in many locations in the Rompin district this evening.

The number of flood victims in Kelantan has decreased to 1,782 individuals from 603 households at 10 PPS in Pasir Mas and Kuala Krai, down from 2,415 individuals from 760 families yesterday at noon.

According to the Drainage and Irrigation Department’s (JPS) official webpage, only two main rivers were at danger level, with Sungai Golok in Rantau Panjang recording a reading of 9.31 metres (m) and Sungai Kelantan in Rantau Panjang recording a reading of 9.31 metres (m) (9.24 m).

In Melaka, the number of evacuees at three PPS in Alor Gajah and Jasin had decreased to 150 people from 37 families, down from 165 people from 41 families.

319 persons from 80 families were accommodated in two PPS in Kuala Lumpur, notably Kelab Sultan Sulaiman and SJK (T) Saraswathy, while 345 victims were placed in five PPS in Negri Sembilan.

As of 6 p.m. yesterday in Perak, 257 people from 72 families were being treated at two PPS in the Hilir Perak area.
