Lucasfilm introduced on Thursday that Ryan Gosling will play the lead role in their upcoming 2027 movie “Star Wars: Starfighter.” Following the ending of “The Rise of Skywalker” in 2019, the movie will show fresh characters in action five years later.

Since Disney ended the main Skywalker saga in 2019, they started with “Starfighter” as their first Star Wars theatrical release. Under Director Shawn Levy‘s leadership, this fall the film production will start as he brings his expertise from Marvel’s Deadpool & Wolverine and Netflix’s Stranger Things.

During Star Wars Celebration Japan, Gosling revealed that he was fascinated with Star Wars long before he experienced the story firsthand. “The Star Wars phenomenon became part of my cultural identity when I was born”.

As an Oscar three-time nominee the actor upheld Ken’s role in 2023’s Barbie while hailing the film’s impressive writing. The film holds excitement for everyone while featuring fresh personalities and powerful emotions. Through his role in the latest Star Wars movie Gosling wants people to witness what lies hidden in the Star Wars universe.

Even though people hoped he would do justice to the Star Wars film series, Levy embraced his task with faith in his path. He told fans they would present true Star Wars passion through their work as they developed unique new material.

The Mandalorian Trailer will debut in 2025 and the Starfighter release follows in 2026. Jon Favreau directs this May 2026 film adaptation of The Mandalorian and Grogu content from Disney+.

Star Wars movies earned $5.1 billion at the global box office when George Lucas released them in 1977.
