Shah Alam police examines spreading pre-signed interstate travel forms online due to many cases of forgery

Spreading pictures of interstate travel application forms with alleged police officer’s signature is being investigated by the police. Deputy Police Chief Supt Ramsay Anak Embol of Shah Alam District said in a statement this evening that this case is being investigated under Section 468 of the Penal Code for forgery, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act for improper use of network facilities.

Since the government is restricting movements of people to put a stop on the spread of Covid-19 under the nationwide state of Emergency which began in January, it is a part of the health protocols for the police to require these forms for those who need to travel from one state to another.

The signature of Sergeant Major Mohd Fadzli Ali who is reported to be the assistant police station chief of Shah Alam District, Section 6, also appeared on one of the widely spread pre-signed travel forms online.

Aside from the signature itself, there’s also a stamp of a police station that is imprinted on the form along with the words of gratitude for the support given in lessening excessive rules and formalities in getting the travel pass approved without the need for due diligence or going through the needful authentication process.

There’s also a report that is given earlier today regarding the same pre-signed travel form which showed a forged signature of a police officer in Kemaman district of Terengganu.

Regardless of the fact that the Muslim fasting month of Ramadan is drawing closer, the government is giving no sign of lifting the interstate travel requirements due to the continuing increase of cases of Covid-19. Over the years, it has been a tradition for the Muslim Community of Malaysia to travel back to their hometowns during the weekends to break their fast with their families. That is until the pandemic hit the world last year.
