Singapore and Malaysia agrees to set up green lane for essential business travel

Singapore and Malaysia has agreed to set up a green lane and periodic commuting arrangement to meet the needs for essential business and official purposes, the Singaporean Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed in a statement.

The decision was made after a telephone call between Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong and Malaysian Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin. The two leader discussed the gradual reopening of cross-border travel between the two nations.

The Reciprocal Green Lane (RGL) will allow cross-border travel for essential business and official purposes while the Periodic Commuting Arrangement (PCA) facilitates the travel for Singapore and Malaysia residents who hold long-term immigration passes in other country. They will be allowed to return home and re-enter country of work after their home vacation leave.

Residents will be allowed to return home from work after spending 3 consecutive months in their country of work.

Singaporean PM Lee reiterated the country’s commitment to ensure Singaporeans and Malaysian communiting needs are being taken care of. Prime Minister Lee and Prime Minister Muhyiddin have relevant agencies that handles public health protocols to ensure a stable recovery for both countries from the Covid-19 health crisis
