SINGAPORE – Singapore’s Ministry of Health (MOH) on Sunday (April 19) reported 596 new cases of Covid-19 with hundreds related to foreign worker dormitories, bringing the tally now to 6,588.
The ministry said that majority of the cases confirmed came from foreign workers linked to known clusters while new clusters are detected at Woodlands Lodge I, Changi Lodge II, 51 Paya Ubi Industrial Park, 17 Jalan Besut and Sembawang Shipyard. 25% of the cases confirmed were Singaporean or permanent residents.
“The main increase today continues to be for work permit holders residing in dormitories.”
“We are still working through the details of the cases, and further updates will be shared via the MOH press release that will be issued tonight,” the minister said in a statement
The Ministry of Health also confirmed that work permit holders who have been tested positive for the virus are mostly young and asymptomatic. They are being monitored in the community isolation facilities. None is in the intensive care unit. As of Sunday, there are 6,588 confirmed cases with 768 recoveries and 11 deaths.
