What makes Changi Airport in Singapore the greatest airport in the world for 2023, according to World Airport Awards?
Changi Airport is the second-cleanest airport in Asia according to the World Airport Awards, and it is also home to the world’s first transit lounge with an outdoor pool. These facilities make you never want to leave the airport.
Aerotel Singapore, located at Changi’s Terminal 1, is said to be the first airport transit hotel with an outdoor swimming pool, shower facilities, and a poolside bar.
“Transportation need not be a tedious thing,” Aerotel Singapore’s website stated.
“If you’re looking to stretch your muscles after a long flight or simply enjoy a few hours of rest and comfort before your next journey, book your swim at Aerotel and take in some sun or a cool evening breeze while enjoying poolside cocktails, beers, and beverages with food/bar bites accompanied by an extensive list of relaxing and upbeat music as you relax and rejuvenate.”
The Aerotel Singapore is open everyday from 12 p.m. to 10 p.m. and includes unrestricted pool access, Internet, and charging tables and loungers. Showers, food, and beverages are also available for an additional fee at the lounge and poolside.
Not equipped with swim gear? There is a ‘Oops, I forgot my…’ counter where resort supplies such as swimsuits and beach floats are sold.
According to the pool facility’s website, the rates are SGD 27.32 (P1,118.92) per person (12 years and older), SGD 11.88 (P486.86) per kid (2 to 11 years old), and free admission for children under the age of two who are accompanied at all times by an adult at least 18 years old.
Not want to swim? Skytrax has recognized the 7,000-square-meter Plaza Premium Lounge at Terminal 1 as the best independent airport lounge in the world from 2016 to 2022. The World Airport Awards are given annually by Skytrax, an air transport research company.
According to Navarro Walter Santos, the lounge’s Filipino Senior Marketing & Communication Manager, anyone flying in any class, from economy to first or business, has access to the Plaza Premium Lounge, whereas in many airports around the world, premium lounges are restricted to business or first class passengers only.
The Plaza Premium in Singapore has the same services as any premium lounge, plus Internet, televisions with foreign channels, electronic newspapers and periodicals, comfy reclining sofas, and work stations with several outlets. At only SGD 54.96 (P2,250.95) for three hours, a Singapore hotel lunch buffet costs only P2,250.95 (SGD 54.96). According to Santos, the lounge provides not just a resting location with a view, but also unrestricted access to its buffet section, which serves Singaporean dishes such as Laksa and Hainanese Chicken Rice and a choice of beverages, including beer and wine. You may even drink cocktails like the Singapore Sling for an extra fee. Gluten-free versions are also available upon request.
