Indonesia reiterated its strong stance on Israel’s planned annexation of the West Bank in early July. In recent months, the Indonesian Minister of Foreign Affairs Retno Marsudi has conveyed the principle of Indonesia’s position, including several activities undertaken by the Foreign Minister to draw international attention to this issue and to avoid escalating problems over the annexation plan.

The plan was considered illegal and contradicted UN resolutions and international law. The plan also threatens the stability and security of the region. And keep away from conflict resolution based on a two-state solution.

“Indonesia on several occasions as emphasized by the Foreign Minister strongly condemned and rejected the planned annexation of the Palestinian territories, the West Bank, by Israel,” said Acting Spokesman for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (Ministry of Foreign Affairs) Teuku Faizasyah during a virtual press briefing from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Wednesday, June 10.

Faizasyah said Foreign Affairs Minister Retno Marsudi represented Indonesia several times urging the international community to reject the plan. To that end, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has sent letters to 30 friendly countries in response to the rejection of the annexation plan planned by Israel.

“Indonesia urges the international community to reject the plan and this has been emphasized several times by the Minister of Foreign Affairs. The Minister of Foreign Affairs has sent letters to 30 friendly countries to attract the attention of these friendly countries, to also take a stand and respond to reject the annexation plan, “he said.

“Among them were letters to several foreign ministers and mothers had also talked to the telephone with several members of the OIC (Organization of Islamic Cooperation),” he continued.

The Middle East Director of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Achmad Rizal Purnama said the Palestinian issue was a priority in Indonesia’s foreign policy agenda.

The letter sent by the Foreign Minister to 30 countries, he continued, was aimed at ensuring friendly countries gave sufficient attention to the issue.

He said there were already six foreign ministers who responded and supported Indonesia’s efforts in the Palestinian issue, both by letter and telephone. They promised to work together to bring this issue so that it could prevent the annexation of the West Bank by Israel.
