2 min read

The Ramadan Syawal new moon will be observed on March 30, which will begin the Eid al-Fitr celebration in Malaysia, as stated by the Office of the Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal, by order of His Majesty Sultan Ibrahim, King of Malaysia and with the approval of the Conference of Rulers. The date for Aidilfitri will be determined using two methods which are rukyah (sighting of the new moon) and hisab (scientific calculations).

The Keeper of the Rulers’ Seal will announce the official date for Eid al-Fitr later that evening through print and other electronic broadcasts.  There are 29 locations around the country designated for moon sighting including Baitul Hilal in Johor, Bukit Jugra in Selangor and the Hilal Observation Stations in Penang, Kelantan and Terengganu.

The Meteorological Department of Pakistan has stated that the new moon of Syawal will be born on March 29, 3:58 PM PST corresponding with 29th Ramzan. The Central Ruet-e-Hilal Committee will meet to verify the sighting of the moon on March 30 with Eid al-Fitr anticipated to occur on March 31. The world will have a big celebration when the moon is confirmed.
