On Friday, Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Transport Suriya Juangroongruangkit have promulgated the order of the Prime Minister to resolve the short term problems which are rising day by day unobtrusively. The urgent measure focuses on stopping PM 2.5 dust  by switching the travel of the public to electric train lines and the BMTA which will be free for the seven days from January 25,2025 to January 31, 2025. These first moves of the government mainly focused on six areas by coordinating with both BTS and BEM operators. Around 140 million baht has been allocated from the budget for promoting the PM’s order.

Ministry of Transport’s Eight Checkpoints to detect the black smoke vehicles are,

  • Future Park Rangsit
  • Khlong Toei Port
  • Chatuchak Park, Phahon Yothin Road
  • Bangna-Trad Road, Km.1
  • Suwinthawong Road, in front of Minburi Waterworks Authority
  • Rama II Road, in front of Bang Khun Thian Highways District Office
  • Rangsit-Nakhon Nayok Road, Km.4 in front of Lotus
  • Inbound-Outbound, Borommaratchachonnani road

This could encourage the public from 20% – 30% to opt for public transportation for travel if the government implements within seven days and could help the Ministry of Transport to analyse the problem effectively.

“The government remains committed to fully solving the smog problem, with both short-term and long-term measures, and will quickly resolve the problem” said the Prime Minister in the order of short-term solutions.
