The Sound of Music, one of the most successful Broadway musicals, debuted on Broadway in 1959. It was composed by Richard Rodgers, Oscar Hammerstein II, Howard Lindsay, and Russel Crouse.
It has received five Tony Awards, including Best Musical, and a Grammy Award for Best Show Album for its initial run since its debut. It has also been memorialized in a film starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer that won an Oscar.
