After discovering two more cases of coronavirus disease in the country in 2019 (COVID-19), the public will refrain from panic-buying face masks, Health Secretary Francsico Duque III said Friday.

His recall came after he revealed that one of the two recent confirmed cases of COVID-19 in the country was an elderly man with no travel history abroad.

On the other hand, Duque said those with respiratory illnesses would avoid going out.

COVID-19’s fifth case in the country is a 62-year-old male who has frequently been to a Muslim prayer hall in Barangay Greenhills, San Juan City.

Health authorities are now tracing communications and finding out a patient’s parent is already symptomatic.

The lack of travel is a clear indication of this being a local issue, Duque said about the case of the elderly Filipino citizen.

According to World Health Organization country representative Dr. Rabindra Abeyasinghe, one person infected with COVID-19 can transmit the virus to three others.
