In a surprising move during the 2025 NFL Draft, The Tennessee Titans took quarterback Cam Ward as No.1 overall pick. Ward who was once an underappreciated high school prospect has finished his remarkable climb to the top of the NFL draft list. Following a phenomenal year at Miami, during which he threw for 4,313 yards and 39 touchdowns, Ward was named a Heisman finalist and solidified his position as a future star in the league.

During his five year collegiate career, Ward played two at Washington State, two years at Incarnate Word and his last year at Miami. By the end of his career, Ward set a notable combined record of 158 career TD passes with 71 conference in FCS and 87 in FBS competition.

With three consecutive losing seasons going 3-14 the Titans were in desperate need of a franchise quarterback. The team struggled with their last quarterbacks including Will Levis, whose season was complicated by injuries and interceptions. Ward’s draft was anticipated since Tennessee had remained steady in their interest and sent top personnel including head coach Brian Callahan and GM Mike Borgonzi to watch Ward at Miami’s pro day.

Ward’s journey from West Columbia High School’s zero star recruit to No.1 overall pick is a testament to relentless work ethic and mental toughness. Titans coach Brian Callahan called Ward the kind of player who has all the qualities the team looks for in a quarterback. Driven by a chip on his shoulder and a need to prove himself, Ward is poised to start leading the Titans into a new era.
