Turkey-Syria Earthquakes: UAE President commences the ‘Gallant Knight / 2’ operation

According to official media, the United Arab Emirates made a commitment to provide humanitarian aid to Syria on Monday in the amount of around $13.6 million. This comes after an earthquake in Turkey that killed at least 1,000 people in the conflict-ridden nation.

The earthquake with a magnitude of 7.8 hit near the city of Gaziantep in Turkey just before dawn on Monday. It resulted in the deaths of around 1,651 persons in Turkey and another 1,000 in the neighboring country of Syria.

According to the official news agency WAM, the Prime Minister of the United Arab Emirates, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, “ordered immediate humanitarian relief to those impacted in Syria.”

According to the report, the worth of the help is fifty million dirhams.

Aid and rescue teams have been quickly sent from countries all over the globe to places that have been impacted by the disaster.

According to WAM, the United Arab Emirates has already sent its first jet to Adana Airport in southern Turkey, where it would “bring search and rescue personnel, crews, and medical equipment.”

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has announced that it intends to create a field hospital in Turkey. Additionally, the UAE will deploy search and rescue teams to Syria, in addition to urgent relief supplies and emergency help, according to the news agency.

According to WAM, earlier on Monday, Emirati President Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al-Nahyan made separate phone calls to both his Syrian and Turkish colleagues in order to express his sympathies after the tragic events in Syria.

According to what was reported, he “emphasized the UAE’s support for Syria and Turkey and promised to give whatever help in their efforts to lessen the effect of the earthquake.”

The United Arab Emirates (UAE) reopened its embassy in the capital of Syria in December 2018, signaling an attempt to pull the administration of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad back into the fold of Arab nations after a boycott that lasted for many years.

After more than a decade of deadly civil conflict, Assad finally made his first trip to an Arab state when he traveled to the UAE in March of last year.

In the meanwhile, the first aid jet departed Abu Dhabi for Adana Airport in southern Turkey bringing search and rescue personnel, crews, and medical equipment. Adana Airport is located in the southeast of Turkey.

In response to the earthquake that struck the Republic of Turkey, His Highness Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, President of the United Arab Emirates, has ordered the establishment of a field hospital and the dispatching of a search and rescue team to assist the people who have been impacted by the disaster.

In addition, Sheikh Mohamed ordered the deployment of a search and rescue team, as well as the delivery of urgent relief supplies and emergency aid to those impacted by the earthquake in the Syrian Arab Republic.
