UAE and Malaysia agrees to cooperate in renewable energy

The United Arab Emirates (UAE), a country in the Middle East, and Malaysia, a country in Asia, have increased their bilateral relations in recent years. The UAE is the largest investor in Malaysia from the Middle East region. The Emirates is also the second largest investor in the Southeast Asian country among the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) member states.

Both nations have now agreed to establish renewable energy capacity of 10 gigawatts in Malaysia. Anwar bin Ibrahim, the Prime Minister of Malaysia, said that both nations would establish renewable energy capacity of 10 gigawatts worth $8 billion by the next two years under the cooperation between Malaysian Investment Development Authority (Mida) and the Abu Dhabi Future Energy Company (Masdar). 

Collaboration between the UAE and Malaysia

Malaysia and the UAE will cooperate for the establishment of 10 gigawatts worth of energy at $8 billion in the Southeast Asian country.

In May, the two countries agreed to negotiate on a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA).

The Ministry of Investment, Trade, and Industry (Miti) of Malaysia said that the UAE’s CEPA would boost bilateral relations. Tengku Datuk Seri Zafrul Abdul Aziz, the Minister of International Trade and Industry of Malaysia, said that the prestigious agreement would increase job opportunities in the two countries. 

According to Thani bin Ahmed Al Zeyoudi, the Minister of State for Foreign Trade of the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia’s investments in the UAE is around $150 million. The UAE investments in Malaysia is around $220 million.

Malaysian PM visits the UAE

Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim is currently in the UAE. He also held a meeting with Sheikh Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, the President of the UAE.  

The Malaysian Prime Minister came with Malaysian Foreign Minister Zambry Abdul Kadir. Anwar Ibrahim and Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan discussed various issues of mutual concern.

The cooperation is important for the leaders in the UAE and Malaysia. The two countries have cooperated in various fields, including defense. Earlier this year, the Desert Tiger 6 military exercise was conducted between both nations.
