KUALA LUMPUR – If the government decides to convert some of the hotels into a quarantine centres one again, it will suffer more losses, says Malaysian Associations of Hotels (MAH).
MAH Chief Executive Officer Yap Lip Seng said that if the government went ahead with the plan of converting hoteles to quarantine facilities for Malaysians returning from abroad, The industry will have a hard time bouncing back from the losses incurred during this period.
Yap admitted that there had yet to have a meeting with the government as of the moment.
According to MAH, They have expected the MCO to end by April 28 and it was estimated that the industry will incur RM2.6 bil in losses from the month of March to June.
MAH said that converting the hotels into quarantine centres will forced it to not received other guest.
Malaysian Medical Association reportedly backed the Health Ministry’s proposal to place Malaysian coming from overseas in quarantine centres to monitor their health. Malaysian Health Coalition founder Dr Khor Swee Kheng proposed a ‘precision quarantine’ policy to further improve the health measures. Accoriding to Dr. Khor, The country, after fighting Covid-19 for several months now should acquire more targeted policies to improve isolation measures. This will have a better balance of public safety, rights, comfort and cost in the long run.
