What are the Warning Signs of Indonesia’s Ruang Volcano Eruption

Mass Evacuation Authorities evacuated approximately 11,000 people from the surrounding areas due to the eruptions and the subsequent tsunami alert.

Volcanic Activity

Ash and Smoke Emissions The volcano sent ash and smoke more than two kilometers into the sky. The second eruption pushed the ash column to 2.5 kilometers.

Lava Flows Video footage showed flows of red lava streaming down the mountain, reflecting in the waters below.

Tsunami Concerns

Historical Precedent Officials expressed concerns that part of the volcano could collapse into the sea and cause a tsunami, as happened during a previous eruption in 1871.

Exclusion Zone Extension

Increased Danger Radius After four more eruptions on Wednesday, Indonesia’s volcanology agency raised the alert level for the volcano to four, the highest on the scale, and widened the exclusion zone around the crater from four kilometers to six kilometers.
