According to CNN, South Korean head of state Yoon Suk Yeol offered a formal apology to all citizens of South Korea after his short, ineffective bid to promote martial law. This rare event that only lasted for six hours has caused political unrest in the country and forced on the president to step down. The political conflicts in the South Korea and the questioning of the democratic spirit have been provoked by the Yoon’s live TV performance of declaring new martial law and accusing the opposition party in anti-state activity.
The declaring of the martial law responded to an armed conflict with the opposition Democratic Party, which dominates the parliament. On the same day, legislators stormed through soldiers in a few hours to unanimously reject the decree. This has been a deadly blow to Yoon and it was made worse by the fact that even those who voted for his People Power Party want him to resign. The chief of the recently created Han Dong-hoon party stated that the president simply cannot go about his daily business. Late resignation has now become inevitable.”

Newer information has therefore made Yoon’s political situation even worse as a proposed arrest list included major members of the opposition. As per the reports, Yoon demanded the first deputy director of NIS to ‘arrest and clean everything up’ during the martial law declaration. The list is said to contain Han Dong-hoon and opposition leader Lee Jae-myung which sparked the political persecution issue. It has raised public anger and supported the impeachment process that will be held this weekend.
